The sun continues to shine this week. Hummingbirds still feed on the flowering maple, and spiders lurk in the yucca blades, but our people are out of sorts. We are not surprised, but stunned, angry, uneasy, and sad. Platitudes regain their poignancy. One foot in front of the other; together arm in arm. I feel like I’ve been knocked off my horse and may have to carry on alongside for a few days before remounting. We may also need to change horses, but the destination remains the same.
Our little corner of Oakland is still a place of love and kindness, and for this, and so many other wonders in this strange and enormous world, I am grateful. Oakland Yard is not technically a production facility, but we make love and kindness here on 40th and Webster Street every day, and for the last eight years, we’ve welcomed you to come find some of that goodness, and carry it back out into your life to share with others. As long as you’re with us, we’re not going to stop. Come by Oakland Yard this week - crawling, walking, back on the horse - we’ll be circling the wagons with joy and celebrating our eight year anniversary with dancing and deliciousness.
